The Story Behind the Print

How Groovy Grayling Became a Fishe Original

Groovy Grayling began with one of Alaska's most recognizable freshwater fish. First launched in Anchorage in April 2016, the print carried the Arctic grayling's sail-like fin and shifting color into gear made for fishing, travel, movement, and everyday life.

The Alaska Inspiration

The Fish Behind the Groovy Color

Arctic grayling are known for tall, sail-like dorsal fins and iridescent red, aqua, and purple markings. Their bodies can shift through silver, gold, blue, and darker tones.

Movement and color made the species a natural Fishe muse. The fish is widespread across Alaska and especially loved by fly anglers for its willingness to rise to a dry fly.

Meet the Arctic Grayling

From Fish Silhouette to Groovy Grayling

Artist Chaney Fray created Groovy Grayling as part of her fish-inspired work for Fishe.

Her process begins with observation. She studies the species, identifies its most distinctive shapes, then builds an abstract composition around contrast and color.

The result is not a literal fish illustration. It is artwork that remains connected to the species while moving naturally across apparel and gear.

Why the Print Still Feels Like Fishe

Groovy Grayling respects a distinctive Alaska fish without treating it as something that belongs only in a field guide.

The print turns observation into expression. It gives anglers and outdoor women color without sacrificing utility, and it moves easily between water, trail, road, and everyday life.

Carry the Original Into a New Adventure

Groovy Grayling began as an Anchorage launch and grew into one of Fishe's most recognizable fish-inspired prints.
