From a Rainy Valdez Weekend to Fishe Marketing

Kacie Samson's path to Fishe started with 72 straight hours of rain, soaked camping gear, and a dry bag backpack that changed the course of her career. As one of Fishe's original team members, Kacie helped coordinate the website, newsletters, social media, artist collaborations, and the many details behind bringing beloved fish-inspired designs to life.

How Did You Find Your Way to Fishe?

Fishe asks: How did you find your way to Fishe? What drew you to working here originally?

Kacie says: It is actually a funny story. My fiance and I went camping in Valdez, Alaska in 2017. During the trip, it rained for 72 hours straight. I didn't have a dry bag, so all my belongings were soaked and it was a tough weekend. My fiance felt bad about all my belongings being wet, so he went and bought me a Fishe dry bag backpack. That was the first I had ever heard of Fishe! After that, I started following the brand on social media and the next time they were hiring, I jumped at the opportunity!

Alaska, Love, and an Unexpected New Path

Fishe asks: My fondest memory of living in Alaska was...

Kacie says: Falling in love with my fiance! What was supposed to be a spontaneous summer vacation to Alaska, turned into 4 years! Incredibly grateful for my time up in AK, which ultimately led me to work at Fishe and set me on the path I am on today.

Fishe asks: Five years ago, where would you have envisioned yourself?

Kacie says: This is such a hard question! I may not have necessarily envisioned myself working at Fishe (having never picked up a fishing rod in my life!), but I am sure glad that this was the path laid for me. I also thought I would have been married sooner (thanks COVID), and I didn't know I would be back in Colorado, working remotely for Fishe. All in all, plans change, life happens - but I wouldn't have it any other way!

The Creative Work Behind the Brand

Fishe asks: What is your favorite part of your job at Fishe Wear?

Kacie says: My favorite part of my job at Fishe is getting to work with our talented artists! I help manage the creation and production of our beloved fish designs. From timelines, to mood boards, to full collections, I have a front row seat! I really enjoy being so involved in gathering the customer comments on which fish should be next, all the way to bringing it to market. We have such a dedicated and talented team, I am honored to be a part of it!

Fishe asks: Something you may not know about me...

Kacie says: I originally went to college for a degree in Biological Anthropology, the study of human biological variation and evolution. Ever since I was young, I was always fascinated with what humans are, why we look the way we do, and where we come from historically.

Fishe asks: Other than fishing, how do you like to spend your free time?

Kacie says: I like to spend most of my free time with my family and friends. I enjoy reading, watching movies, getting outside in the awesome CO sun, and of course.... Tiktok scrolling.

These bestselling pieces show how artist-led ideas become functional gear women can wear on the water and beyond.

What Kacie Hopes Comes Next

Fishe asks: What do you hope changes about Fishe in the future and what do you hope stays the same?

Kacie says: In the future, I hope Fishe is able to open another store front that caters more toward tourist foot traffic. Being in Anchorage, there are so many tourists wandering around, especially downtown! Another fun option would be a smaller store front in Homer, AK. I volunteer to work there!

What I hope stays the same for Fishe in the future is the community. There are so many amazing female anglers whose story inspires Fishe to keep creating gear for them to feel confident and comfortable in!
