Meet the Artist
The Secret Alaska Map Inside Camping Camo
At first glance, Camping Camo looks like exactly what its name promises: a bold Fishe take on camouflage.
Look a little longer and the shapes begin to feel like shorelines, channels, mountains, and water cutting into land.
That is because Camping Camo is a map.
Artist Claire Van Winkle created the print from the landscape surrounding Kenai Fjords National Park, Resurrection Bay, and Aialik Bay—places she came to know during years spent guiding in Alaska.

The story behind the print
A camo pattern made from a real place
Camping Camo did not begin with a stack of camouflage references. It began with geography.
Claire based the artwork on a map of Kenai Fjords National Park, Resurrection Bay, and Aialik Bay, then translated that landscape into flowing shapes, unexpected color, and the layered movement that became Camping Camo.
For Claire, these were not places viewed from a distance. She had spent years working and guiding in the region. Those bays and fjords were places she moved through, learned from, and remembered.
So instead of drawing an idea of Alaska, she was drawing from lived experience.
It is camouflage with a hidden geography inside it.

Designed in Alaska
From snowy cabin to finished print
Claire shared a photograph of herself finalizing the design from a snowy cabin in Girdwood. On her screen: the Camping Camo artwork. Outside the window: Alaska in winter.
That image captures the spirit of the print perfectly. The artwork feels colorful, layered, and alive, while the landscape that inspired it sits just beyond the glass.
The map is not reproduced literally. Coastlines and terrain are transformed into abstract shapes so the print works first as art—and then reveals more of its story once you know what is hidden inside.

Meet Claire Van Winkle
An artist shaped by time outside
Claire’s connection to the outdoors goes beyond designing patterns. She has spent years working and adventuring in Alaska, including guiding in the landscape that eventually inspired Camping Camo.
That matters because the water, mountains, and fjords in her work are not decorative ideas added later. They are part of the places she has actually known.
The result feels especially at home at Fishe, where original artwork and real outdoor use are meant to live together.
Wear the map
Camping Camo Riffle Snap Fleece
Camping Camo found a natural home on the Camping Camo Riffle Snap Fleece.
The print has enough movement and scale to let different pieces of the hidden landscape show across the garment. Because print placement varies, each fleece carries its own section of the artwork.
Camp comfort. Everyday adventure.
The live Riffle Snap Fleece is a midweight pullover built around comfort, breathability, and freedom of movement. It includes a snap-closure placket, a spacious front pocket, and soft-stretch trim for easy wear through changing days outside.
It is currently offered in sizes XS through 3XL.

Camo for people who do not really want camo
Traditional camouflage is supposed to help you disappear. Camping Camo takes the opposite approach.
It borrows the organic movement of camo, then adds the kind of color and personality that makes the print feel unmistakably Fishe.
And once you know the story, those abstract shapes stop being random. They become pieces of Resurrection Bay, Aialik Bay, and Kenai Fjords carried into the design.

Built for days without a fixed plan
The Riffle Snap Fleece works best on the kind of day that changes shape as it goes.
Pull it on for a cold start. Wear it around camp. Layer it for a river morning. Keep it close when the temperature drops later in the day.
The story gives it meaning. The function gives you a reason to keep reaching for it.
Another Claire design
Camping Camo is not Claire’s first Fishe print
Claire also designed FisheWaters, another pattern that has grown across the Fishe collection and onto our XTRATUF collaborations.
When Claire saw her FisheWaters artwork on the tall XTRATUF boots, she told Katrina she was thrilled to see the design come to life.
That is one of the best parts of an artist collaboration: something that begins as artwork eventually ends up back outside—on rivers, trails, boats, campsites, and wherever the person wearing it decides to go.
Final note
Wear the place
Some prints catch your eye because of color. Others become favorites because they somehow work everywhere.
Camping Camo has another layer entirely: there is a place inside it.
There are fjords, bays, pieces of coastline, years of guiding, and an artist turning familiar Alaska terrain into something completely new.
Then that artwork becomes a fleece and heads back outside.
The map already has its story. Now you get to add yours.
