A Fishing Memory Worth Waking Up For
Fishe asks
What is a special memory you have of fishing?
Alix says
"Waking up at 4am, getting on a four-wheeler and driving down to the beach, and watching the sunrise while fishing. No matter how many times I do it, it’ll always be special."

Growing Up in Anchorage, Not an Igloo

What is something about your childhood that someone from the Lower 48 may find surprising?
Alix says
"That I did not grow up living in an igloo in the middle of nowhere with no electricity… I know it's hard to believe, right? But it’s true! I grew up in Anchorage, which is Alaska’s version of a big city. This may seem like a silly answer to the question but people ask silly questions and I’ve had people think everybody from here just lived in igloos and it was a completely desolate place, but it’s not and you should come up and see for yourself it’s amazing!"
Her Advice for Anyone Moving to Alaska

What advice would you have for people moving to Alaska as a local?
Alix says
"Explore! I’ve lived here all my life and you can forget how beautiful of a place you live in and how many sights there are to see. So I encourage you to go on all the adventures and see the beauty Alaska has to offer. I’m constantly being reminded every day how happy I am to be here. So please enjoy it for you and me."
It is simple advice with real local weight behind it: keep looking, keep going, and do not let familiar scenery become invisible.
For Alix, living in Alaska means continuing to explore the place she has always called home.
Books, Dogs, Horror Movies, and Time at Home

When I’m not at work you can find me…
Alix says
"As much as I love going out and seeing and exploring new things, I do also love being at home. So if I’m not out and about, I’ll probably be reading a book or hanging out with my dogs, or watching some horror movies with my best friend."
Adventure and home do not compete in Alix's answer. There is room for both: days spent seeing something new and quiet time with a book, dogs, or a favorite movie.

"My favorite thing about working here is the opportunity to work around such cool and supportive people. I feel very lucky to have ended up here, and even though it hasn’t been that long, I feel like I’ve grown a lot and have become a little more confident in the things I do. I’m very grateful to the team for helping me out when I needed it; everyone is so amazing and so nice. I'm extremely glad to be here."
